After researching for the best "bang-for-the-buck" audio player, I may have found it in the Cowon iaudio9. Video, radio, recording etc. were not a high priority - just good audio and the Cowon delivers with a WOW factor. The software is a little hinky ...

Cowon has the best sound quality. it is so easy to transfer music files from my laptop as well (do not require any software!). And I also use its radio and recording menu too. I love this. This is exactly what I was looking for.

Player works great, but the software is a disaster. Has not been updated for years. has no documentation and apparently nobody else uses it, as there is no info online. The Cowon will not play songs ripped by itunes in MP4, and the software converts ...

Don't buy it. This thing uses a proprietary USB cable that I happened to lose. Now I can not recharge the battery. What a waste!

Overall I love this player and would recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone...were not a high priority - just good audio and the Cowon delivers with a WOW factor...If sound quality is not your highest priority when buying a DAP, then do not buy a cowon product...

Well IMO listening to it without the new JetEffects sound enhancements isn't that good, but with the right tweaks I'd say you are right, sounds great and I agree that headphones makes a huge difference...Certainly the Slim helps the i9 and especially with overly sensitive phones, but I still like the i7 a lot and it has a more powerful onboard amp, its just too bad they didnt pony up with 3.0 and gapless...The difference with each set of earphones was hugely amazing and it was not always between cheap and good...
