After calibration using SpectraView with a target of 6500 and max brightness I had 750:1 contrast. The illumination was perfect. No color shift. No downside at all. Getting SpectraView is not optional. You must calibrate this monitor using a sensor..

Original monitor started falling apart within a few weeks. Interior bezel clips dropped into the viewing area. Has been replaced twice with a problem of going to snow for ten seconds from sleep. Second replacement came with a scuff on the screen.

They were all horrendously bright and just looked bad if you brought down the brightness because the backlight was too high and not adjustable...Takes some setup but if you want a good monitor that's what you have to do...I have always been willing to spend extra for a good monitor...
